THIS CHALLENGING NEW COURSE with playwright Greg Gould invites teen performers to go to the next creative level by writing a new short play for performance by fellow actors. Performers will also act in a play written by a fellow student and contribute feedback and direction to other plays, developing broad skills across playwriting, directing and acting.
Prerequisite: students enrolling in this course require prior experience in drama and should be committed to developing an original play in a genre/style of their choice - improving the piece based on feedback from tutor and peers. Students will also perform in at least one play written by another student in the course.
In this eight week course for teens, students will:
write an original short play of 6-10 minutes in length, to be performed by fellow actors in the course. There will be milestones set across the course for completion of scripts, moved readings and feedback. Students may write the play in a team of two if preferred.
perform in an original short play written by another student, receiving direction from the course tutor and peers.
contribute to the direction of at least one play and provide feedback on plays in development.
The course will end with a free public performance of the new plays written and performed by students in the course.
