Crash Test Drama

Crash Test Drama Canberra was founded in 2012 by a group of local playwrights as a way for writers to develop their craft through moved readings. In a single afternoon, new plays are cast, rehearsed and performed script-in-hand in front of an audience.

Details of the next event will be posted here. To see photos of past events, head to our Facebook Page.

Script requirements:

* Ten minute short play OR
* Extract from a full length play, up to 15 minutes in length

The aims:

  • To develop the skills of playwrights by allowing them to see their work performed on stage.

  • To provide an opportunity for actors and directors to network and practice their craft.

How it works:

  • Playwrights submit scripts; six to eight are then selected for Crash Test Drama.

  • Actors and directors register to participate by completing the online form or joining the Facebook Event; actors may also show up on the day

  • Directors are matched with scripts prior to the event

  • Actors, directors and playwrights arrive on the day and are given two hours to rehearse.

  • The doors open for a public moved reading of the plays.

  • Judges and audience members select winners.
