October Holiday program: Advanced Performers Intensive – Individual Showcase

October Holiday program: Advanced Performers Intensive – Individual Showcase

9am - 5pm (drop off from 8.45am), Wednesday 2 - Friday 4 October 2019

This intensive 3-day program with Kirsty Budding is for performers who have the motivation and passion to sing, dance and act their hearts out intensively with direction at a more advanced level.

The focus is on individual growth and performance development, working towards a final showcase of individual performances in the Courtyard Theatre, Canberra Theatre Centre.

Each performer in this program is required to:

  1. perform a solo song – popular song or musical (or for non-singing performers who choose the acting stream, lead a play scene in the main role)

  2. perform an individual monologue

  3. dance and act in ensemble roles as required to accompany solo songs.

These will form a dazzling fully rehearsed and costumed Showcase of Advanced Performers with full sound and lighting in the Courtyard Theatre.

The skills focus is on:

  • “Feeling the words” in song, dramatic text and dance

  • Choosing *the right song* - many performers have beautiful voices but simply choose a song that is not right for their voice either in range, tempo or in its maturity or themes. We will explore song options to find one that will show off the singer’s voice to its fullest extent while engaging the audience.

  • Advanced methodologies and exercises for character development and management of emotions and nerves

  • Creative development of aesthetic concepts e.g. considering all elements of a performance such as voice, use of stage, expression, movement, lighting, costume, etc. in building a story and emotional connection with the audience

  • Scaffolding more complex content e.g. monologue performance - and how to analyse a text and mine a text for meaning that can enhance performance i.e. audition prep strategies.

  • Singing technique and review of correct warm-ups and use of vocals.

Location: Courtyard Theatre, Canberra Theatre Centre
Times: 9am - 5pm (drop off from 8.45am), Wednesday 2 - Friday 4 October 2019
Final show for parents: 5pm Friday at the Courtyard Theatre (92 seat theatre - free entry)
